Scottsdale Golf Communities: An Overview

Desert Highlands - A full golf and tennis membership is included with the purchase of property in Desert Highlands. This Jack Nicklaus designed, 18 hole championship golf course, measures 7,099 yards from the championship tees.  The course is among the most challenging in Arizona. Other amenities in Desert Highlands; include tennis, a natural grass putting course, swimming pools and fine dining to name just a few.  After it’s 1983 opening, GOLF DIGEST ranked the Desert Highlands course as the “Best Desert Course in the Country” and the “Best Course in Arizona”.  There are 6 sets of tees to accommodate all players.  Tom Doaks’ Confidential Guide rated Desert Highlands in the following categories: Most Beautiful Clubhouse, Best Putting Course, Best Practice Facility, Best First Tee, Best Club with Locked Gates in 1997.

Estancia - Nestled on the northern slope of Pinnacle Peak, the private community of Estancia sits on 640 acres of Sonoran desert landscape with gorgeous mountain views.  This gated community has an exclusive private golf club.  The golf course, designed by Tom Fazio, was awarded Golf Digest’s “Best New Private Course of 1996.”  The European-style Clubhouse for Estancia features private dining areas, club grill, tennis facilities, a swimming pool and fitness center with full locker room facilities.  You won’t find anything less than million dollar homes in Estancia.

Grayhawk - Grayhawk attracts home buyers because it has wide selection of home styles and prices. People of all walks of life own homes in Grayhawk, which boasts a prestigious north Scottsdale address.  Business districts are a short commute for the working class and the golf course provides retirees with an array of activity.

McDowell Mountain Ranch – McDowell Mountain Ranch is a 3200 acre master planned community, located in the McDowell Mountains, in northeast Scottsdale.  The Ranch is home to the, publicly funded, Sanctuary Golf Course and WestWorld (a nationally recognized Equestrian Center).  Homes were built by several different builders, including; Centex, Engle, Shea, Toll Brothers and T.W. Lewis among others. One prominent North Scottsdale location is McDowell Mountain Ranch. In 1994 McDowell Mountain Ranch became the largest new community approved for development under Scottsdale’s Environmental Sensitivity and Landscape Ordinance. Eight builders commenced building homes in 1995. Homes were sold out by the middle of 2003. Today, McDowell Mountain Ranch now boasts a 75 acre park and aquatic center, fitness center, skate park, Westworld Equestrian Center, and an 18-hole public golf course.
